— Frequently asked questions

Questions & Answers

Do I need any experience to start?

Not at all. Heather teaches complete beginners of every age — from young children picking up an instrument for the first time to adults who have always wanted to play. She’ll meet you exactly where you are.

What age do you start teaching piano?

Piano lessons start at age 5. Heather uses Suzuki-informed principles with younger students to make learning natural, joyful, and age-appropriate. There is no upper age limit.

Do you teach online?

Yes — in-studio in Ephraim, Utah and online anywhere in the world. Online lessons are full-length, fully engaged, and just as effective for most students.

What styles do you teach?

All of them — classical, jazz, gospel, Celtic, sacred, pop, contemporary, and more. Heather has genuine roots in each tradition. You bring your music; she builds the foundation that lets you play it.

How long are lessons and how often?

Private lessons are 30 or 60 minutes, meeting weekly. All memberships are month-to-month — no contracts, cancel anytime.

What is the Intro Week?

One full week of lessons for $59, credited 100% toward your first month. The lowest-risk way to experience the instruction before committing to a plan.

Do you teach music theory?

Yes — theory is woven into every lesson as a practical tool. Heather draws on her background teaching Contemporary Keyboard Harmony at the collegiate level. Students learn to understand what they’re playing, read music, play by ear, and eventually write and arrange their own music.

Do you help with competitions and auditions?

Yes. Heather has extensive experience preparing students for local, regional, and national competitions, college auditions, and special performances.

What if my child misses a lesson?

Group class students can make up a missed class on the alternate day that week — all group classes meet twice weekly for flexibility. For private lessons, please give 24 hours notice to reschedule. No refunds for missed classes.

Are Utah scholarship programs accepted?

Yes — Utah Fits All, Harmony Education, and My Tech High are all accepted. Heather is an approved provider and can supply documentation for fine arts credit.
